Somnath Temple -

                                                                            One of India's the oldest temples is this one.This temple is situated in Gujarat. Which is the oldest temple in India. Which is a Shiva temple. This temple is one of the important temples of Hindus. According to Rigveda, this temple was built by Chandradev. It is considered one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of India.

  This temple was a symbol of upheaval in Hinduism.This temple has been both extensively rebuilt and extensively destroyed. One of the main reasons for this area being famous is that Shi Krishna had committed suicide here.



In this temple, the responsibility of its operation and arrangements is with the Somnath Trust. She takes care of all the work. The Indian government collects some tax by giving this trust to the gardens. The reason for this is that this land belongs to the Government.This temple is also famous because of Vishnu Bali. Lakhs of people come here in large numbers during the three months of Chaitra, Bhadarpad and Kartik. Along with this, there are rivers like Deer, Kapil and Saraswati etc. Which are known as Triveni rivers. These rivers also have a special significance.


Stories related to this temple -

                                                                                             According to some scholars, it is said that Chandra Dev had married 27 daughters of King Daksha-Prajapati. Out of these, he loved his wife named Rohani more. Seeing this injustice, King Daksha-Prajapati cursed Chandra Dev. According to this curse, the brightness of the moon god will gradually decrease. There will come a time in which you will become sluggish. Due to this curse, the brightness of the moon started decreasing the very next day. This made Chandra very sad and to remove this curse, Chandra worshiped Lord Shiva and went to the feet of Lord Shiva. Then Lord Shiva said that you cannot be completely free from this curse, but I give you a boon that your glory will go the way you want. Will come back in the same way.

In this way the temple was built here and it was named Somnath.



According to some scholars, it is also said that once Lord Shri Krishna was resting. Then a hunter mistook the fire of Shri Krishna for the eyes of a deer and fired an arrow at them. From here Krishna left his body and went to Vekhand Dham. For this reason a Krishna temple has also been built here.


History of this temple and events related to its reconstruction -

                                                First of all this temple was rebuilt by the kings of Vallabhi. After this, in the 8th century, the Arab governor Junayd sent his army to destroy this temple. who destroyed the temple.


In the destruction of this temple, it was reconstructed for the third time in 815 by Jata Nagbhat of Gurjar Pratihar Vash. People started gathering in large numbers in this temple. Seeing this, Muhammad Ghaznabi sent his army in 1024 to destroy this temple. In which about 5000 people were involved. This army destroyed this temple for the third time. About 50,000 people were praying to save this temple from destruction. All of them were put to death.



After this Bhima of Gujarat and the king of Malwa got this temple rebuilt. When the Delhi Sultan captured Gujarat in 1297, it was also demolished for the fifth time.


After this it was reconstructed by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. After its construction, he declared it as the property of the nation in the year 1995.

This temple was repeatedly destroyed and it was also constructed again and again. In the year 1048, Muhammad Khilji destroyed the Shivling of this temple and in the year 1300 Alauddin destroyed the Shivling.
